Why can older men in offices get away with a beard, but younger men can't? Is this age discrimination?
Answer:
If it happens it's discrimination and unlawful, but what exactly do you mean when you say "get away with". If you have been told that you cannot be bearded in an office enviornment, take the individual/company to court. I have been bearded since I was 19, it's gray now. Yes I did have some problems with individuals trying to impose their hirsute and sartorial standards on me, but they soon knew where to leave off! The law is on our side.
no its simply a matter of taste
young men have none
In most cases, the younger man doesn't have sufficient strength of growth in the facial hair department to grow a beard without it looking like bum-fluff, whereas the more mature man not only has the right sort of hair, but the right sort of demeanour to carry it off decently and smartly. On the older man it looks distinguished but on the young bloke merely foolish.
Its a double standard
Do you mean beard of stubble?
If its the later, its just plain AND simple office politics bullsh*t.
In other words, its a power thing.
A figment of your imagination!
i think it's discrimination.
Everyone is scared to tell the old men that the beard looks horrid. Get that mullet off your face.
Clean shaven reveals the greatness of your complexity, and the smoothness of your powerful jaw muscles.
If anything, surely the older guy has MORE money to spend on shaving equipment
grow one, and if they ask u to shave it off, order them to pay for the necessary equipment to do it
Who said older men can get away with having a beard, but younger men can't. Have you experience of this?..if so ask the reason why? I bet your boss is middle aged and female.
