When you're at a job interview, and the guys asks "what don't you like about yourself?", what should you say?
Answers:
Because no one is perfect, there has to be something about yourself that you don't like. So pick a trait that is "good" but sometimes considered the opposite.
Example:
perfectionist = pay attention to detail but may spend too much time doing so
assertive = confident but people may tend to mistake it for being aggressive
something thats actually a positive like
"I get really stuck on some things and have to do them to perfection or it will bother me the rest of the day."
or
"im a perfectionist."
I always work so hard at my job that I never have time for anything else. Even when I am home I am thinking of ways to work harder and better.
I would say something like, "I don't like that I'm a perfectionist." or something to the effect
I would say- "I have a few flaws I try to improve upon" but, I try to like myself". It shows that you don't think you're perfect and that you have good character.
I like to say that my worst trait is that I'm impatient. When I want something done, I want it done NOW.
Try not to "spin" your answer by saying something which makes you better than you appear (eg. I'm a perfectionist or I work too late because I want to get things done). These are kiss butt answers and the interviewer can see right through them.
Besides that the question is not necessarily a good question nor do I believe appropriate, feel free to be a bit creative (this not confessional!). As examples:
1. I have never thought of such a thing, so I am not sure what to tell you.
2. I'm pretty happy with myself, so I don't think there is anything I don't particularly like.
With this kind of dodgy answer, the "what would you improve" is certainly next. Pick something work related, but not core to your job. Good luck.
I don't like it when these interviewers/recruiters ask hard questions. What if these people pass the interview but they don't do quality work? What if these people don't pass the interview but they can be one of the best employees? If I was asked "What don't you like about yourself?" I would say "I get nervous doing job interviews because I might get some answers wrong BUT I know that I can do the actually job and be one of the best employees if you give me the chance!"
Natsuej;
At job interviews, it is best to answer questions in ways that will better adapt you to the job for which you are applying.
For instance;
"I like the fact that I can do more than one thing at a time."
Another thing I like about me is; "that I am able to stay relatively un-rattled. In other words, stay in control regardless of things that would normally make others angry."
"I pride myself on being very organized."
"Of just about everything I do, I stay focused; can't stand to leave things unfinished."
Do you get the idea? It is better that the things you say you like about you are things that will benefit your employer should you be chosen for the specific requirements of the job for which you are interviewing.
In fact, every question asked of you should be answered according the this same theory. The interviewer is only interested in what you will bring to the job for the benefit of the employer. They are not interested in your personal wants and want-nots. However, should the position be offered to you; it is now the time when you may ask questions which have to do with those things you are looking for in the job; benefits, vacation, promotions, tuition assistance, evaluations and raises. etc.
Always stay focused on employer needs until (if you are fortunate enough) you are offered the job. After that it is your turn to interview the employer.
Catch my drift?
Good Luck
