Should a senior citizen that works in an office be written up for constant mistakes?

Answer:
Unfortunately, I am dealing with a similar situation with one of my employees. She is simply no longer capable of doing the job, but it is not for lack of effort. Poor thing even has a pace maker!

I am sympathetic to her, but I have to uphold the standard out of fairness to my other associates. How can I ever write them up for a mistake if I do not hold her to this standard.

It is a sad situation, but, as they say, we have to run a business. I certainly do not want to end up in court being accused of favoritism.
if they are part of the work force then they need to be treated like everyone else who is part of the work force. If you would write up a younger colleague for making the same mistakes, then yes they should be written up.
Only if he/she is constantly making mistakes. The fair thing to do is to treat every worker the same. Maybe there is a younger more qualified person waiting to fill that job.
No, she should be placed in another position that is easier and less stressful. The mistakes are not intentional so writting her up will just hurt feeling and not fix the problem. Give her basic duties.
Yes, not telling them what they are doing wrong is going to let them form/keep bad habits that should be broken. They are not reaching their potential, therefore by not telling them it is age discrimination.
Everyone of any age should be held responsible for the quality of their work. If you are the supervisor of this person, you should speak to s/he about it. If you aren't the supervisor of this person - mind your own business.
Dribbling and drooling are allowed.
Depends on the employer's policy. Are you saying that being a senior citizen means making more mistakes, or are you asking if someone should get away with not doing their job properly because they are a senior.
If they are making constant mistakes then I don't care what their age is, they should be written up just like anyone else.
Absolutely. a senior citizen is still required to do the job with QUALITY. If they try to hide behind age discrimination, remember that the law only protects people between 40 and 70 and doesn't protect against incompetence
ABSOLUTLY NOT, THEY SHOULD BE TREATED WITH EXTRA CARE, AT LEAST THEY ARE TRYING TO PULL THEIR WEIGHT, UNLIKE SOME. BESIDES DONT YOU WANT TO BE TREATED BETTER WHEN YOU ARE LESS STABLE? ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE PUTTING FORWARD AN EFFORT.
Sometimes the monotony causes the mistakes, have you thought of reassigning his duties?
