My job is going to Mexico. Me and about 100 American workers are being laid off. What do you think of that?

Answers:
I think it's sad for you 101 workers and your families. It's not going to be easy finding new jobs with that many of you released into the workforce and severence pay/unemployment only goes so far.
My company outsourced to India, claiming it was cheaper and the people were better educated. Let 430 of us go, and two years later had to hire some 500 people because they found the time difference, work habits, and accents for the customer service workers made the outsourcing impractical. We had the last laugh, though--300 of us had moved to a similar company in the same area and so the old company had to train all new people. (130 of us retired or worked elsewhere) Think what that cost them--recruiting, training, and then all the weeks wasted until the newbies learned the ropes.
These companies are dumping us for the cheaper labor, yes, but what does it cost them in the long run?
it is a shitty deal. i went through the same thing
I think this the norm today for manufacturing type jobs. It's unfortunate for affected workers, but besides being workers, we're all consumers and we want the cheapest goods. The cheapest goods mean the cheapest workers, so this trend will only continue.
total bull shitt
Wont be the first time. Corporate loyalty to there country and employees is an ancient concept. I suggest you always keep your eyes out for better opportunities and acquire new skills outside of your main job. And don't be afraid to change jobs for better pat. My career field in 2003 I started making 31000/ yr. Now in 2007 I make 15000/ yr more
This stinks but it's how things work today. Someone mentioned something about cheap goods and he/she is right. Unfortunately, I don't think we're getting such a good deal as consumers. I also want to point out that it's not just manufacturing jobs, there's outsourcing for call centers and other fields in Mexico, Brazil, India, and other countries.
Don't be a face in the crowd. If 100 employees can be replaced in a single move, then they were not doing anything special. In your next job, prove to your employer that the company is more profitable with you than without you. The company's responsibility is to make a profit. Your responsibility is to support your family. The way to do that is to earn more than your paycheck.
Disgusting, but it is the "way of the world." And just as yours and other companies are leaving your country, there will be others expanding their market and coming in.

Good Luck
