I want to quit my job?

is making a resume and distributing it and then calling every place that you've applied to check up on it a good idea if you're 18 years old and have had 5 or 6 average jobs in retail and food service with no degree?

Answer:
If you are 18 and have had 5 or 6 jobs, sounds like you hop around a lot.
Unless you can explain yourself, I would wait until you have a steady record of long term employment and then create a resume.
thats actually a good idea, but first ensure that your resume is selling you and your experience..keep calling them they will see that you want to work and that you are persistent..
ok then quit
It wont hurt to try.
Then quit.
If you are 18 and willing to move to Western Australia you will get a job the first week! You have the right idea and drive it will be easy for you Good Luck
make sure that you have a good resume that emphasizes the skills you learned in your retail and food service jobs. i would say do not call every place right away. sometimes they get flooded with hundreds of resumes and it can take a week or maybe two before they get to yours. if you don't hear from them after that, then give them a call.
Sometimes we take jobs just because they pay money and have benefits. You need to look at your long-term goals and decide what will help you get there. If you are young and need job experience, you can get that by working at any job. No matter how high you get in the work force, customer service, money handling, and dealing with different types of personalities will help you excel.

The most important part is to decide that you are serious about learning and building your job skills. At this point, you need to think about why you quit, and how to avoid that problem in the future. Otherwise your resume will not help you get the job you really want.
I understand about wanting to quit a job. Some jobs are simply bad fits. However, you need to think about what you want to do for the future. If you are hoping jobs a lot, it doesn't look as good to employers (if that hopping is because you work only during summer or holidays from school, no problem).

Think about things you'd like to do, want to be. Write a list (even if it sounds impossible at the time) and then figure out what the best and worst parts of the job are. After selecting the most interesting, list what you have already done to get that job and what you can do to work toward it.

On the resume front, make sure you have contact information on the resume. Phone, email, etc. Make sure when you drop off a resume you are dressed nicely. Don't call immediately---they have to go through lots of resumes. If you can, call and ask to set up an appointment to talk to someone about the job.

If you are mailing the resume, add a cover letter that explains why you want this job, what you bring to it, what skills, training, experience you have. Make sure it is spelled correctly and the punctuation and grammar are correct.

Good luck.
