I love learning about pathogens, and microbiology has really interested me for a long time. However, the part that interests me the most is what the pathogens actually do to the body...not so much there structures, etc. I like working with microscopes in labs, but I think it's much more interesting to see and treat people who actually suffer from rare diseases. In the field of Microbiology, I know that it's a lot of research work...and I'm very social and couldn't work alone with a microscope all day. I want to be a part of the process and being there in front of patients that have rare and weird diseases and help treat them...or at least do something like that. In other words, I want to work with microbes as a career, but I don't want to research all the time and sit with a microscope all day!! I'm a student currently, and have been thinking about a career choice...I love medicine...and I just don't know where my love affair with germs fits into all of this. Any answers would be nic

You could look into going to medical school. When you do your rotations, and finish, look into specializing in Epidemiology. I know an M.D. that does this for a living. It is a very interesting career. Also, A public health nurse would be great too. You are in an environment to see and document unlikely viruses that are in the general population. The whole demographic charting ,and a whole lot more. These careers have great opportunity and salary.There are so many more to name. Have a great day and I hope you follow your goals.

Become A doctor that specializes in Tropical diseases, or forensic scientist.
Germ lover, if you have lots of money, lots of time, don't care about your own recreational time, don't care about having a family life...become a doctor! Doctors of infectious disease receive specialized training to treat patients with, sometimes even undiagosed, diseases. Very challenging. If you have about 17 years to give to preparing for this specialty, give it a shot! (hee, hee!_ lol is sooooo ordinary!
