What do I do if I want to apply for a job but for the last 5 years, my 2 ex-jobs, do not give out references?

Answer:
I guess you just list the job and explain that their policy is not to give out references..or maybe you can ask an individual that you worked with for a phone number to list as a personal reference?

Why don't they give references? That is weird to me ? I've never heard of that.

If that is their published policy, maybe get a copy of it printed out with their company logo (like off the web or somethign) and be prepared to show it to the company you are applying to so it doesn't seem fishy to them.

You can always ask former teachers or other people from your life to be references for you as well.

Be sure to be able to speak in very specific details about your strenghths as you think they will apply to the new job, because if no one else can speak for your skills, your words have to make your abilities very clear to your prospective employer.

Good luck.
not unusual theyre afraid of defamation actions. try to find a friend/ colleague that prospective employers can contact or sign afull and complete release.
I agree with the previous answer but is you're still having a problem try an agency that will place you in a job , that will help cut down some of the interview/reference part.
