How do I become a flight paramedic?
Answer:
You first need to take an Emergency Medical Technician class (1 month). EMT is easy, and anyone can pass the class and test. Nothing to it. After that comes the hard part. You need to take a paramedic course (1-2 years depending on whether you do it full or part time.)
After becoming a paramedic, most aero-medical services require their flight paramedics to have more than a year of paramedic experience (2-4 years normaly). There are also weight and hight requirements (depending on what kinds of helicopters they use.)
Many community colleges offer a course for Emergency Medical Technician. That would be a first step. From there, you can pick up the information on what additional training would be required.
If you are still in High School, or younger, you can get your start by getting first aid certification. If your school doesn't offer it, try to get information from a local Red Cross office. Boy Scouts often offer merit badge training in this direction. Some troops are very advanced and are part of local community Emergency Response Teams.
