You have to be licensed. To do that, you have to take specific classes. Many of the community colleges offer the required courses. There are also companies that specialize in just the real estate courses like Champions, Kaplan, and Purvis. Some of these also offer correspondence classes that you can take in your spare time. The tests can be sent to police or fire stations or even a local school for you to take with a proctor. There are 6 in all. When you pass all of these, you go to a "cram course" where they teach you how to take the exam. It is a prep course. Then you take the exam at the real estate commission. It takes about $700 to $1000 and if you do it correspondence, maybe a month or two to learn it all, depending on how long it takes you to go through the material. The schools also offer actual classroom learning as well which is good for those who need to be taught by someone other than themselves, but it is the same material either way.
You can call a Real Estate Agent in the State of Texas and they can direct you. Also check with any of your Local Community Colleges and they can help you with this information as well.
