Has any one here worked in Dubai UAE ?
Answer:
As far as working overseas in the Middle East, well it is very much different then Europe or America. In fact there is many things you will find that may seem odd to you.
They do have malls, and stores as like anywhere else in the world. One thing you need to learn is how to fanagle when buying from street and some mall vendors. Especially jewlery, cologne products. They tend jack the prices up.
As far as housing goes, if you are being sponsored by an employer then they will help you or should. As far as the pay, they more then likely will pay you in AED (Arab Emir Dirham).
Here is a conversion layout to get an idea what their money equals to ours and vice a versa.
3,000 US Dollar = 11,021.9 Utd. Arab Emir. Dirham
3,000 Utd. Arab Emir. Dirham (AED) = 816.555 US Dollar (USD)
I have been in the Middle East while as a soldier and as civilian.
My most important piece of advice, is to not try to stand out or act like an american. If you try to show them you are learning their language and cultures other then converting to Islam, then you will find them coordial to you.
Otherwise you will run into a few people who will always be idiots, jerks etc. Nothing different then america.
I would first find out how much you will be paid and where and what your medical benefits will be.
I have friends working in Kuwait who have housing given to them and they basically live on their local economy but more in private community. They also recieve COLA. Cost Of Living Allowance (This is paid in their currency, not U.S.).
I hope this sheds some light.
UAE = United Arab Embassy!
Who'd want to go there while in the outbreak of war?
Never been there but I know some people who work there. From what I heard, the city is fast developing. Nice and modern. You should be able to earn more there than elsewhere. Working hours may differ because of the weather. Rents can be fairly reasonable. Good luck!
