How do I break into video editing industry? ask to work for free?

I have taken an apprentice course in television production which included in video editing, But I can't a job due to the fact I dont have a bachelors degree.

Answer:
I used to be in the video industry as an editor and videographer, but I got out because it was so difficult to get work.

Here's my advice, start at the low end. You need to make money and get at least some experience. So try to find a job with a company that does wedding and special event videos. Sounds lame, right? But it's easier to break into that than going right to the top. They'll probably care more about your skills rather than your degree. And while you're working there, getting some experience and making some money, you can still continue looking for work at more impressive video companies.

And you can use your at home equipment or use their equipment to start putting together a demo reel of your work.

To find a job with a wedding video company, try to find the best wedding video company in your area - the one that does the highest end weddings. Some of these companies charge $4,000 to $5000 per wedding, which means they can afford to hire employees and are not just one guy doing this out of his home.

This is what I did. I worked for a wedding video company in Chicago that did high end weddings. I edited and did camera work on a freelance basis, which still allowed me to do freelance work for other companies. Although working for a wedding video company isn't what you aspire to, it's steady work that is a good fall back when you can't get other work.

Good luck.
When you figure it out let me know, it's tough to get those kind of jobs.
