How do you become a radio DJ?
Answer:
i know most of the dj's in my area started out on underground stations, at parties and clubs. a communications degree wouldn't hurt. and if you go to college you could get a internship at a radio stations. that would really help. a LOT of people want to be radio dj's. The competition is tough so good luck.
That would certainly help!
With clearchannel owning over 95% of radio stations, all you need to do is work with satelite equipment. Your only chance is to apply at a locally owned station. You don't necessarily need a degree if you're willing to work late at night for awhile.
Someone came into our class in the 8th grade for career day and said that they got their job by working at the station doing odd jobs and eventualy they ended up with the job they wanted when the old guy quit. If you see someone offering jobs, just make sure you display all of your best qualities. But knowing the right people helps too.
I think that would be a fun job!! :)
It is a very competitive area of employment where networking and education are extremely important. Check out local broadcasting schools which concentrate on what you need to know about the industry and they have the contacts for employment. Be warned. starting salaries are extremely low until you are well-known in the industry at which time you can make a fortune.
