Is computer programming really as boring as it seems?
Answer:
Be a doctor. The world needs another computer programmer just as much as we need another folk singer or as much as I need a hole in my head (as per Cracker).
I really enjoyed it for many years. But with offshoring I’d not recommend it to a young person today.
Programming should include a lot of technical & business analysis as part of the job but some places do have people who only do coding. That would be very boring for me.
I’d recommend a business degree with a lot of computing classes. That way you could use computer knowledge as part of a business career
it depends if you have the passion for it then you'll enjoy it. but if you're just there forcefully. it will be really boring.
But programming isnt just coding you know. there is the design, application or combining both design and coding, etc.
One man's meat is another man's poison. It could be a wonderful job if you enjoy the work. In 1970, during the infancy of computers, I finished both hardware and software school and enjoyed the work tremendously. We were programming with ones and zeros (machine language). For 10 hours a day, we do things that no other people understood. That was great. Then every computer came down the assembly line looked like a toaster. The thrill was gone. I quit, went back, got my MBA and moved into the financial side, But then some of my former co-workers are still there 30 years later. You have to answer to your own calling. But in this country, if your are willing, you can try anything and be successful at it.
