Is "recruitment consultant" a good job and can we really earn that much money?
Answer:
Assuming you're referring to being a Recruiter.
Internally, within a company:
- Limited pay
- Limited promotion possibilities
- High pressure from Managers to get the "great" people
- Get to make impact on company in that you bring in the people
- Lot of paperwork
- Business focused
Externally, with recruiting firm:
- High turnover
- Few succeed, but those that do make HIGH $$
- Extensive phone time (5+ hours daily)
- Sales focused
In theory you can earn loads of money, but it can be the most frustrating and cut throat sales job ever - not for everybody. When it work, it works really well though and you can earn great commission!!
The answer to that is yes and no. Tthe job is really about selling people. There are two types of consultant ones that supply temps, your wages are then based on how many temp positions you can fill in a month but bear in mind depending where you are in the country some menial jobs are almost impossible to fill. Then there are the permanent consultants their wages are a fraction of the person they have found a position for so the higher the wage the more you get. If your wages are not capped and you are good at selling then you can easily earn good money. One word of warning the turnover of staff is very high and the stress levels to meet your targets are ruthless. Good luck.
It depends how qualified you are to do the job. It isn't that easy and to earn big money you have to be very good at what you do and prospective clients have to know that you are qualified to do it. Usually you are paid on results so it isn't an easy option. You can but try - good luck.
I work in recruitment and I think its a great job! I'm lucky to work in an established firm so the hard selling side of the job is very limited because they have plenty of good clients. I also work in a specialised industry so again selling is limited because the competition is limited. The job itself is enjoyable because you pretty much work on your won. I’m given a list of vacancies and I have to try to fill them. We've got a database of candidates and also have access to the job sites like Monster. I search for good candidates and I call them to see if they are interested in my vacancy. if they are, I send their details to my candidate and hopefully they’ll get an interview. I work in permanent recruitment so it moves at a much slower pace, there’s hardly any pressure. The commission is fantastic and the margins are defiantly in our favor. We invoiced £10000 for one placement and it was literally about 20 minutes work that had gone into it. I've made £13000 in my first quarter (Came into the job with no exp back in June). However, there are down sides. Candidates don't turn up for an interview of they drop out of work or don’t turn up on the first day, they lie on their Cv etc. all of which can make the recruitment consultants life difficult! The hours can be long (fortunately not in my job) and it can be quite cut throat. But it really depends on the company you work for. I like recruitment because its the sort of job where the more you put in, the more you get out.
