What type of degree do I need to work in the travel industry?
Also were do I go to find the cetification requirements for my state and training facilities if any are needed?

You need to choose the course which is involving tourism and travel agent. Go to the Tourism College.
Once you have completed your course, you can apply for job in the travel agent or in the hotel (or resort).
When you are just graduated, you will not be getting a high position or pay, as what is practise by other company, remuneration and promotion is depending on your capability and work performance.
If you choose to work in the hotel, you can choose to be in the sales & marketing, front desk, reservations department or food & beverage. Working in the hotel or resort is more demanding compared to travel agent. You might be assigned to work on shift!
If you are working for travel agent, you can be the travel consultant and you will work during the office hour. If you choose to be the Tour Manager, you are going to perform a task like a tour guide and you will have to work for long hours!
As long as you can get a right company to work with, you will find that working in travel industry is enjoyable but think twice if you are not the kind of willing to wotk for long hours.

I don't think a degree is actually required, but anything in marketing or other than English would be great. You could always be a bi-lingual tour guide!
