I would not because come on why would you want to go for somthing you know you most likely will not succeed in over an occupation you have a nine out of ten chance of getting (could be anything worth your time such as being a Doctor which you have more of a chance of having retirement money to live on when you are older).
Practical answer is pay the bills, and try to get work that is related to your passion. Work is much easier when you like being there.
I think you answered your own question, knowing you have a good possiblity to fail.. You could live a simple life. Try it for a while.
I followed my dream. I hate seeing people loose their dreams. Where would we be if Edison took your approach, or Ford, or any other great achievement. When you give up your dreams, you might as well die.
Find the ways to make your dreams come true. Never ever work for a paycheck. Create wealth, have your money work for you. They don't teach it in school, you have to educate yourself.
People don't work in grocery stores at 70 because they followed their dream, it is because they didn't learn about money.
