Is it necessary to give 2 weeks notice on the job?

Hi there!

I was wondering is it really necessary to give 2 weeks notice on the job if you hate the job and it treats its employees like trash? I've been desperate to leave my job since I started!

No bites from other prospective employers as of late; I fear that I won't be able to leave you know?

Answer:
Not giving 2 weeks notice is in effect burning your bridges, so I would make sure I have another job lined up first. There is no rule that can be enforced that says you have to give notice. When it comes to references all an employer can report is whether they would rehire you or not. If the job is as bad as you say I would get another job and then just leave. Many companies today will not except a notice. When you provide it they tell you to leave and most perspective employers want someone now, not 2 weeks from now. I am very responsible in this area and almost always give notice in case I ever want to go back, but I did not give notice on my last job because I felt they had treated me very badly and owed them nothing.
Find the new job first - then put in your resignation. Like them or not you should be respectful and give them 2 weeks notice. But make sure you have a job first!
no. in fact if you do they might just throw you out the same day you quit
It depends on 2 things.
1. What Country you are employed in (Remember you are on the WORLD wide web)
2. It also depends upon your contract of employment.

I suggest you read your contract of empoyment carefully to determine what the effects would be for violating it.
you might want to have another jobbie first. then no!!!
It's not necessary but it is a good business practice. Also, this shows your future employers that you won't up and leave them without a notice, too. Also, until you have another job in hand, you should keep the one you have. For some reason it seems people who are employed are hired quicker than someone who is unemployed.
If you signed a contract prior to employment, you should review that first. Perhaps the contract stated that you MUST give a 2 wk notice. If not, then you don't have to. It is a nice and decent thing to do, if you can.
It's not necessary unless you want to use them as a reference in future job searches. No one will recommend someone who left them in the lurch. If your attitude toward your job is as transparent in person as it is here then chances are good that as soon as you tell them you are leaving they will ask you to pack your things and go. No one wants a disgruntled employee hanging around the place. But, more practically, you should suck it up and deal with it until you actually have another job to go to. Being unemployed in New York is not a cool thing.
well you can just leave without notice, if you don't plan to use them as references, or pass jobs, also if you plan to ever go back to that job again
