What are some common questions that a Human Resources professional would ask an employer when checking an.?

employment candidate's references? I think rate of pay, dates of employment, but what else?

Answer:
Is this person eligible for rehire?
What job duties did this person actually perform at your company?
The first question is a definite given and you better hope that answer is yes, if you are putting your previous employer down as a reference.
The biggie is usually "would you rehire this individual?"
Most companies will not give out any information other than work dates
