Is it bad working for someone you know?

A friend gave me a job about a month ago. I quit with the words "We can either be friends or I can work for you, but you can't have both." Need I say more.
The thing is that you have to separate friends from work. Get them mixed up and you will have a problem. There needs to be boundaries set by both you and your friend about what you can and can not do while at work.
I can see why your mom is concerned, I think its because shes afraid of personal issues or disputes between your friend and you which could end in you losing your job. Getting fired will look bad on your resume' too.
Although I think working for someone you know has greater benefits. You start off knowing your employer and having a stronger relationship. "Trust" as I learned is an important role in company management and infrastructure. I think you should take it, because you have to start somewhere before you can move on. And if you found a better job somewhere else, then take it, especially if it is with a bigger more well known company.
You will have to know where to stop
I think that you should take the job. But first talk with your mom and the friend. Let them both know that anything that happens on the job stays at work where it belongs. That it in no way interferes with their friendship.
I worked with one on my mom friends. When I was given the job my mom, the friend and I had this conversation. Nothing I did on the job interfered with my mom and her friend relationship. All parties involved acted as adults.
At times, the friend and I, had a difficult time getting along with one another at work but neither one of us bothered my mom with this. Or if we did, my mom was mature enough to realize that it was just one of us ranting about work that it was something that should not be repeated to the other person.
I worked at the job for 4 years with the friend. She taught me alot about what kind of manager I would like to be and NOT like to be.
