All government jobs from local county government to federal government have great benefits and are fairly secure compared to private sector. Once you get past the probation period (usually six months to a year) the employer has to go through an arduous process to get rid of bad employees. State jobs are subject to that states retirement plan - varies. Do the research. Get on the Internet and look up benefit and retirement plans at both entities. I know my local government job allows 13 holidays, 12 vacation days and 12 sick days to start. We are part of the state retirement plan.
As far as fastest?? Hah! There is NOTHING fast about getting a government job of any kind. Your best plan is to pick out a job you are qualified for, and to tailor your resume to bring out every bit of education and experience that proves you are qualified on every point addressed in the job description. If they require two years of experience make sure your resume points out at least two full years of experience dates. Use EVERY buzzword in the job description in your work experience or you will be screened out very early on.
