What should you do when your boss asks you to something you don't know how to do?
Answer:
No matter what he says you need to contact the software company anyway, trial version or not they will be able to help you with this problem right away and if your boss has a hissie fit about that then you can also report him for abuse and that will put him in his place fast.
You are not to blame for not understanding what he wants you to do and if he knows how to do it and refuses to show you how then that too can be reported but first contact the software company for their help and that way you will learn from the best because it's their own product and they will be happy to help you with it.

If he was a good boss he would not be asking employees to do stuff that they aren't trained for.
That's very inconsiderate of your boss. The time it takes him to tell you the answer, the more loss of productive time. Asking is very important. If he's not helping you, it's obviously not a great organizational culture you're working in since it lacks teamwork and decentralization.
Sounds like you boss is putting you to the test..He wants you to either break or succeed.show him that you can figure it out..talk to other workers and see what they have for you.
Try to find who knows except your boss.

Evidently, he is wanting to add to your knowledge by allowing you to figure out the snag to enrich your skills and capability of being a top notch problem solver. If you can figure this out, it would be a coo for you. However, to attempt to perform such tedious tasks without training is a lot to ask. Go ahead and try to research one more time for the answer and it you're still stuck, I'd go to him and present him with your research up to that point and at least he will know you have diligently tried. Perhaps you know of someone who is familiar with this program who could give you a few tips. Good luck.
Is your boss the CEO of your company? If not, go one step above your boss and explain your situation. If that doesn't help, I'm sure your skills would be appreciated somewhere else.
