How do I become a Pubilc Speaker?

I would like to become a public speaker especially on complementary and holistic therapies. This idea was suggested to me by a fellow yahoo'er as a way to promote my therapy business and make some additional cash, but how do I do this in the UK? I am a male therapist and I would like to promote the views of mine and other male therapists’, it seems this industry is very much dominated by female beauty therapists, but that is in fact another question. Any idea's?

Answer:
The best possible way to become a better speaker is - no its not talking to yourself in the mirror surprisingly- to take up DRAMA lessons.

It is great fun and you can meet all sorts of new and exciting people while participating in something thats really enjoyable and does wonders for you public speaking abilities! trust me.

Good Luck with that
Go to Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park, and chat about whatever you want. Have a few drinks before, its more fun.
you can get a megaphone on amazon then just take it to the mall
Are you any good at public speaking? If not there are other ways you can promote your business.

You should look for exhibitions or conferences where you can display your wares and promote yourself.
I think the first thing to do is to attend as many events related to the area you want to get into. Get yourself know, talk to people, make networks and get contacts.

Next, it is perhaps best to do some unpaid talks - to show off your skills and prove you are interesting as well as once again getting your name known.

Give out business cards at events with your webpage on it - where your webpage details your experience and perhaps mention that you are will to give talks for a fee. Also mention this as you give out business cards (if the right situation arises).

Finally, ring up and ask if institute x, club y, etc are looking for speakers at an upcoming event. If you have got your name known, and have been seen to do a good talk else where (voluntary) then you will stand a better chance of getting a positive answer.

All in all, I would say its down to gathering contacts and getting your name known in the business, then it is more likely you will be offered paid talks.

Hope this helps - its not a quick solution, but should work out in the long run.
Go to the Radio 2 website and see what you can find on Chris Evans' show. I haven't looked at the site myself, but yesterday (Wednesday) his expert on the show (he has people on every day covering a wide variety of subjects) was all about public speakers! Apparently Bill Clinton is the one to beat, worldwide number 1 public speaker! If there's nothing there, there will at least be contact information for the show.
Since you are a great speaker with experience. You could offer your service to talk to classes on that subject but always ask for paid as well. You could call the radio, TV places and ask if they ever thought of doing a show - a call in advice show with you as host. You would write a resume up with all your experience and see if it Flss. Also there is the freelance way .. in which you advertise your self as a speaker and see if you get any calls. Starting any thing takes time and waiting on it to work. Good luck to you.
