How do I choose a new career. From engineering to ??

I have been in the engineering field for almost 16 years. I have an associate's degree. I've looked around for a different job but nothing looks appealing. What other areas could I go into? I like working with mechanical stuff and I like the creative aspect. It just seems like the manufacturing industry is leaving, too much outsorcing. I've got too long before I can retire. Any suggestions?

Answer:
Think online. Maybe you can design something or procure something and sell online.

CS probably pays better them ME nowadays. But not sure if you can enter such a field.

Or try management. For example, gets a MBA and then sqitch to management?

Another choice is try areas that combines ME and newly emerging technologies, such as bio-engineering? Bio-mechanical problems?

engineering is a good job and if you like the cash and the job,you should keep it,do whatever you like.
make sure that you really want to leave, but it depends on what else you like or want 2 do. i am sure u can be anything u want 2 be. i know engineers who later became doctors, so maybe u could try that if it appeals 2 u
I'd say try civil engineering with a mechanical or public works department. I am currently in a civil engineering firm and we do mechanical here and there, plus all the other typical civil stuff. You can't get too creative because it's mostly just pipes and pumps but it's still fun and stable, civil engineering will always be around!
i came up with this good idea the other day. how about a spa on wheels for pets. you can drive to the clients home and take them into your spa for treatments and then take them back inside to their owners.
See if you can become an expert witness in the engineering field. With your experience it might be a match, but I don't know the education requirement. You just have to appear in depositions and trials and answer questions, and make a lot of money.
I'm in the same situation.

I'll be interested to watch your answers.
experience matters alot. since u have this long experience, u should not altogether try to switch ur carrer. i would rather suggest, u stick to ur career right now and along with try something new, e.g, business. when that new career of yours is established, then u just make the switch.
