How do you give salary requirements to an employer?

I am trying to build my resume and cover letter to get a job. How do I construct a letter stating salary requirements? What is the best way or format to work with?

Answer:
You normally do not state your salary requirements until after you've been called for an interview. However, a few jobs state in the advertisement that you must include your salary requirements in your cover letter. In those cases, just add a short paragraph at the end of your normal cover letter that says "With regards to my salary requirements, I will consider offers in the range of $X to $Y."

You should think very carefully about what that range is, by researching online salary estimators (like on monster.com) and by calculating your own expenses and needs. If you're currently in a job you like, it usually doesn't make sense to change jobs for less than a 10% increase in salary, so you might make the X = 10% more than you make now and Y = 15% more than you make now. That's pretty standard procedure.
You don't give salary requirement on your resume or cover letter. You have to sell yourself first. Once they want to hire you, that's when you tell them.
You should not include your salary expecatations in your cover letter or resume, unless is it is specifically required to submit an application for.

Leave it up to the hireing manager to ask you in the interview.. Then respond with something like "I am sure your offer will coinside with my skills and experience for this position"
