If you live in a foreign country, you should learn their language.
1- body language
2- try to speak his/her language
3- don't talk to him/her
well i don't know if you are online or if he/she is next to you!
what languages does he/she speaks? does any of those ring a bell to you? Try it!

You could just mime to her/him.

Try to draw. It also might work.

Use your imagination.

I flap my hands around a lot point to my eye if I mean me simple stuff. Or you could visit a translation website and type in what you want to say.
Has to be actions, definately. Doesn't matter if you slow down and speak more clearly, if they don't speak your language then that isn't going to help them. Most things can be communicated with simple manouvres. Think of the way babies and toddlers communicate(NO NOT BY CRYING AND SCREAMING) but by raising a hand to there mouth for food and drink. rubbing eyes for tiredness. pointing to things they want. you get the idea.

Just get them the sack, how can you work with someone if they can't speaka da lingo? Just shows how mental this country is.
I have used the Babel Fish website to help communicate with a number of co-workers. It will translate blocks of text for you. I have provided a link to the website below.

Aside from the website, patience and the willingness to learn as much of their language as you are expecting them to understand of yours will help.

When ever I have a new team member that does not speak English well or at all, I track someone down who understands both languages. In case of any time sensitive situations, I can have this person translate. I try to do this a little as possible. It shows more of a willingness to work with someone, if you can get past the language barrier without outside assistance.
