How do I start my own Day Care Service?
Answer:
Where to start? OK, first u need a license to do business as a daycare owner in the state u live in. If u do not want others to be able to sue u for ur own personal property then u will want to get
business incorporated(this also allows for ability to use name in
the manner u wish), u will need an attorney to make sure all of ur affairs r in order and keep him on retainer in case of accidents. U will need to be careful when choosing ur building because it is only allowed to hold "x" amount of ppl at any given time. U will need to pay the fire inspector to come and approve the amount of children that will be authorized by law to be in said building. I don't
know if law is still same but I was required to carry insurance in the amount of $100,000 per child/per accident. Also, i believe the rule of daycare (consult ur state laws) is that no more than 10 children per adult are allowed(so forty children means four workers), u have to also have property insurance(be it rental or
regular) that protects the actual site where u r doing business such as fires, slip and falls outside, flood, things of that nature)ur building must be hadicapped equipped 2 pass fire inspector w/all
working alarms and water system and specific types of fire extinguishers per their required square footage. I had to pay $4000 to have a usable handicap ramp added to my building so be sure to get advanced "handicap ready" facility to save u from closing down. There's just too much too list here.if u want to know more email me..
You have to female or nobody will trust you. Thats first. Then find a cheap place to rent. Why not just use a room or two in your house? Then find people who trust you to do a good job. Mostly people would want you to have a PHD in childraising first I think.
I used to be a janitor at a daycare center, I got fired, and I personally knew the boss
Call the child services in your state. In my state they have a class once a month with all the licensing info, but it fills up fast.
Call a good real estate office, and start checking into buildings they have for rent. Look for price and location for a day care. Also, make sure the zoning is OK for a day care. The real estate agent can assist you with this.
You'll need basic furniture and toys. Garage sales, flea markets, and thrift stores are good. You'll need a computer with record keeping software (I just used Excel).
KEEP ALL YOUR RECEIPTS IN A ENVELOPE OR PLASTIC BAGGIE. Everything you spend just about is tax deductable.
Good luck! I think you'll love it!
