Answer:
Okay, let's look at this from a management perspective.

First of all is the person really a two-faced brown nose twat, or have you constructed this opinion based upon limited experience of him? Likewise does he really whine and everything and everyone? Always? If you're the only one in the team who's painfully aware of your colleagues actions then I'd suggest you need to investigate your own attitude rather than your colleagues.

Of course, there really are genuine brown-nosers out there, and dependent on the managers or team leaders management style they may choose to treat that individual in differing ways. Personally I endeavour to treat all of my staff equally all of the time; it really doesn't take much to identify brown-nosers within the team. Where an individual within the team is being negative towards the task or colleagues, I would certainly be doing something about it.

I have witnessed in previous roles brown-nosers receiving more attention and special treatment from managers, and, unless there's a very good reason for it which you're unlikely to ever find out, it's just particularly poor management. Here's the bad news - particularly poor management is just about everywhere!

Don't spend all your time documenting what this person is doing wrong, as your productivity and drive are likely to falter and the person losing out is likely to be you. You'll just get more and more wound up and this could well lead to further negativity and breakdown in team spirit. You don't want to be considered by your workmates in the same way you consider the brown-nose, do you?

If appropriate, bring it up in your next 1-2-1 or supervisory session with your manager; make it constructive and remain objective if possible. Explain your perception of the situation and politely ask your manager why he seemingly gives the best tasks to the brown-noser. If he's a good manager he will calmly explain or take an active interest in what your saying to him - after all us managers aren't perfect and sometimes we don't even notice things until they're brought to our attention. A bad manager will likely get very defensive and try to justify himself.

As I said earlier though, make sure it's not just you and you do have a genuine problem with the brown-noser. Best of luck with it bud.
In my past experience with Brown nose's is what goes around comes around!!!!. it may not happen overnight but it will happen. good luck!
your superviser is to blame for cowering to this person. speek to management preferably with another colleage as a witness and tell them there not doing there job properly.
Start taking notes of everything. No one else sees it but you. Document every instance. Go through the supervisor and make a complaint, but have facts and witnesses. Don't do anything bad around this guy.
You couldn't go on strike unfortunately as a strike needs to be a union action and even then you could still lose your job. The best course of action is to speak to your colleagues and see if anybody else has noticed this behaviour. That way at least you can approach management as a team, which they are more likely to take seriously than individuals.
Aaaaaaaaaargh .. we all know one of those don't we?

Why do they get away with it. And if you are seen to fight back, suddenly it is you who becomes childish/intolerant/moody/a trouble maker/disliked etc. etc.

I'll bet he tells tales too ...
let it go people who do this get found out in the end keep away from it ,
Sorry and all that but life isn't fair, and we just keep on trying. Continue to act professionally. Keep a diary of events that concern you, in case you can use it in the future. Can you see any role for your union in this? Could you arrange an appraisal meeting with your boss, avoid mentioning your colleague, and talk about your skills and how you would like to develop your role? If you are keen to go further, inform your boss of this. Talk about the jobs you like to do, what you can offer and how you and your organisation can benefit from this. Try not to fall out with your colleague, it will look worse for you. Good luck.
kick them out, unless it is you they are brown nose and you like it!
