How do you deal with disappointment and difficult challenges?

I hate to admit it but I think I'm in need of encouragement. I'm taking these art director/creative advertising program in hopes of a career change. I loved the idea of it, and thought I had great ideas. But the classes are so hard! It's disappointing to hear your work trashed, but it's also really great to know you aren't being coddled. Anyone been through this? How did you keep going? I suppose the prospect of a boring rest of my life in banking should keep me going, but the brainless work seems like a nice trade off right now!

Answer:
Anything worth having is worth working for. It sounds like your classes are challenging which means that working within this industry will be challenging as well. The outcome will be a rewarding and challenging career.

I used to work in banking so I know how boring and brainless it can become. Change is hard but it is worth it. I commend you for setting goals and pursuing them.

Whenever your instructor gives you criticism think of it as an opportunity to get better. Constructive criticism makes you better at your craft. Use these comments to your advantage. You are probably doing great in your class. Focus on the positive.

Don't give up! You have what it takes to be great in the advertising industry.
Watch the episode of The Simpsons: 'Brush With Greatness', it holds all the answers you are looking for.
If it's something you really enjoy and want to do stick with it, if not, get outta there. People think if they have boring jobs they'll be unhappy, but not necessarily. Your job isn't your whole life, and it's not the end of the world if you don't get to be what you wanted to be when you grew up, you can still be fulfilled by things other than your job.
You need to sit down and think if you really want this. If you want it bad enough, this difficult change is worth going through. You want to be abl to tell your kids (if you want some) that you were proud of what you did for the rest of your life. Do this and make sure you really want this advertising career because the worst thing a human being can do is look back and consider himself a failure in life and that is exactly wat u would b doing if u stay with the banking job.
One man meat is another poison. Keep going on with the idea that what your teacher trashed today, someone else will think of it as beautiful art. If you can complete this class imagine how many people you will make happy. The current results might not be that encouraging but the end result will be great and this should be the motivation you need to keep going.
i face it..and of course i have a great support system from family and friends.
DO NOT EVER GIVE UP! The fine line between failure and success is the last minute push that you give to yourself. It is always easy to back out from something hard, but the reward for pushing yourself will be great. Remember, the person who told you that you work was trashed is not the person who will be paying your bills, buying you a car, and helping you to get a better life. It is you who can do this for yourself. Ignore the insult and keep moving on. In the end, your endurance will lead you to the fruit of your own success, and all that things won't matter anymore.
Just think of it this way. It is constructive criticism, they are hard because they want to push you to be better. Also, I have had times in my life that my "plan" in life completely fell apart, and I felt completely down in the dumps. But just remember that every time a door closes there are many more doors opening up. These doors you would never have seen had this first one not been closed. So keep your chin up, because more opportunities will make themselves available to you when you least expect it. I suggest talking to people about what kind of jobs they do, and how they like it, and attend college fairs. This way you can learn what is out there, and when you are ready what to expect. This is what I did in order to see these other doors, and it worked tremendously. If all else fails, going to the career fairs you can get a bunch of free pens. ;) Good luck, and always look towards new doors.
