How do I get a job?

I'm a twenty year old college student home for the summer, and am having an impossible time getting a job. I had the same problem last summer. I turn in application after application, and do a follow up call about a week later. How the heck do I get called in for an interview?

Answers:
I am having the EXACT same problem (am 20yrs sophomore in college - so thats a good thing :) ) ... until I recently got the job and now I cant stress enough:

1) Have confidence and smile when applying

2) If you have NO experience then volunteering FIRST for something (anything) looks REAL BETTER than having a BLANK WORK HISTORY

3) If you cant get a job right now and I mean RIGHT NOW then dont be a scrub and do nothing - volunteer first > work at the school .> then apply for a job in the "real world" ... its ALOT easier that way ... and keep those grades up in the "mean" time (no pun intended)
Just wondering, but what positions are you applying for? Permanent jobs can often be difficult to get an interview . If it's just a temp job, you might be approaching things the wrong way.
Go to a temp agency.
Try to set up your own business.at first it will be very difficult but gradually everything will be alright.this was my mum's problem.she tried to look for various jobs despite possesing the right certificates and never got a job. so se decided to create her own enterprise and started by manufacturing and selling clothes for babies and today this family business has proved to be very beneficial and we now produce footstuffs and some beauty products as well. if this is not right for you then try this.Follow a course in which you are sure to get jobs.in uk there are various institutions offering different types of courses along with the job prospectus.so try that.
