Does an equal opportunity employer have to recognize non-violent convicted felons as candidates for employment

I have applied for 3 jobs for which I am qualified and have had 2 interviews but still have not been able to work since serving time. What should I do?

Answer:
You HAVE been recognized as a candidate, if your applications have not been rejected and you have received interviews. It looks like you're getting close!

However, the best way to proceed is to find out if you can petition the court to expunge your felony record since you are a non-violent offender and have obviously improved your life.

By the way, many non-felons don't get 2 interviews out of 3 applications. You're doing quite well.
Legally they have to consider you but there's always places that don't.
They recognize you. However they don't have to hire you. They don't even have to tell you that you didn't get the job because your a felon. I feel for you. A dear friend of mine is going through the same thing right now. Just keep on keeping on. If they have another valid reason not to hire you, discrimination can not be proved. I wish it could. The Best of Luck to you!
Equal opportunity - in simple terms - relates only to - age, race, religion, disability,m. or female - READ ON- if the position you are applying for does NOT require you to be Bonded, - don't tell them or lie - if the question is asked on the application..In time you will be able to have your record "ex sponged" - search the web - The Governor General, in Canada and the Governor of the State, in US - can also grant the order. Regardless - its hard - try and get a job with Corrections - see how they treat you. you can also look at starting your OWN business - there is a lot of money out there from Govt to give you a heads-up. Keep trying all the angles, and don't be tempted to "slip" back into crime. Get on the net/web - Monster.ca - posts jobs 24/7..even try a Relative - see if one of them can help you - kiss * - who cares - whatever it takes and remember it is HARD for everyone, not just you.. I work for myself now, from home, on the computer, lots of work, and your criminal records are never asked!PS: just reading companies e-mail - you can make 4-5 hundred a week, tax free - be smart tho - set up your tax account and put the money away every week. Good Luck Son. I'm rooting for you. let us know how you make out!!
Most do, and since you've had 2 out of 3 interviews you are doing great! Most employers don't know about WOTC (Work Opportunity Tax Credit) where the employer can receive a tax credit from $1200 up to $2400 per year for hiring ex felons and keeping them on the payroll for 6+ months. You can go to www.dol.gov for more information. (Dept. Of Labor) Most of all, stay positive and stay away from crime!!
No. They can consider it a character flaw or simply say something like your references didn't check out if you found out that you were discriminated against
