Would just packing up and moving to hollywod or new york be smart?
Answers:
I'm assuming you are young and with a fire under your butt, who can handle the constant rejection that is the entertainment industry. The "jobless" rate for actors is literally 99%.
Knowing all that, if you want to do it, do it. BUT make sure you have a PLAN -- job, money, place to live, and time limit (you don't want to be 45, waiting tables for 20 years while still waiting for your "big break." And yes, it's that common). You will need to find an agent wherever you end up. Pay for headshots, etc. L.A. and NYC are expensive and sorry to say, actors are a dime a dozen -- nobody is handing out big breaks.
nope
you need a plan if so, find out how much money yu will need each month and transportation, etc.. what if your friend doesnt work out.keep going to school you always need a back up plan.
its bout how you work.. if you can stand in the face of rejection (well to be honest.. you may get a few..) and say "its allright" and move on.. and if you can push yourself to take up any kind of a chalenge, then go for it.. start packing NOW..
if you want the safe route.. listen to your agent.
Not married? No kids? move out there and see what happens. The worst case scenario puts you back home in a year, where you are now, after having gotten that experience. Do you have anything between your ears?
Do not move to a big city without a job and a place to live. Those are the two hardest things to get and you'll need those immediately. If you live in California, you'll also have to maintain auto insurance which is expensive and don't forget about food, utilities and gas, whic is about $3.45 a gallon, to get you to and from your job and auditions.
oh, please don't. we have too many people here now that are desperately trying to become servers and valets at posh restaurants so they can slip their resume and a head shot in with the bill.
if you want to see what life is like elsewhere, join a road company that plays those locations and see what contacts you can make. You will hear what it's really like from the folks who do live there. They will tell you to find a real job because there isn't enough work for the people who are there now.
Sorry to be brutal, but if we had half the people interested in public service that we do in becoming the next Jamie Foxx, this country would be a lot better off.
