How do you get an egocentric boss to realize you know what you're talking about?

My boss is new and wants to be the superstar. He took over on all the higher end responsibilities I used to have and now only has me do his crappy leg work to make him look good. How do I get him to realize that he's not using my talents and I'm frustrated by doing menial tasks?

you tell him! Or let him fall on his face when he does something wrong. don't back him up!
Take a few days off, call in sick & look for another line of work, that pays more. That way he will have to do all your work, & your making your move. Don't worry about him, think about yourself!
Talk to your boss, let him know you are there to help him not hurt him and you don't mind backing him up with more demanding tasks. If he is new he just needs time to adjust he wants to get off to a good start and probably thinks he is doing the right thing. You just need to let him know you are backing him up and he can trust you.
Ask the boss to give you a job description,when he says he has no time to do it ,then provide your own and ask him to make it official .That should shake him into improving your situation.If he ducks then go above his head .to his boss.
