Why is it important for a General Manager to be knowledgable about IT?

Answers:
I manage an IT and IPCC helpdesk for one of the top 5 insurance companies in the world, supporting 30,000 UK users and another 20,000 worldwide. I know the basics about IT and telephony but as a manager/leader it's more important to know people.

It's better to pay a technical specialist than to have a manager with a little knowledge make costly mistakes.
So you can solve any prob. that comes up and so they don't have to hire an IT separately, to save some money.
almost every company is run with computers now a day so say there was a very simple thing such as a keyboard not plug in you could slove that problem your self of couse that a very simple sisituatuion but.say you called I. T. for that you would have to wait so your buisness would be down for that amount of time you would lose that money and you also have to pay the I.T. its all money
It's not. Thats what IT people are for. General Managers should be good at MANAGING.
