Should I bring up my background?

I received a job offer from a big employer and the offer is contigent upon that I pass a background check. On the application, there was the question, "Have you ever plead guilty, no contest, or been arrested for a felony?" I answered no because I have only plead guilty to small misdemeanors, a long time ago.should I bring this up with the recruiter when receiving an offer or wait til they ask me?

Answer:
Good question. Having been a recruiter and an employer in the past, I can say that you didn't mess up. The question was specifically about felonies. If it comes up then be up front and tell them what happened and that it was X years ago and that you've changed since then and you only didn't write it down because it was not a felony.

If it doesn't come up, don't say anything at all. I would also suggest for future reference, know what is on your criminal history so you know what they will be seeing.

You can find your own records for free by going to the city/county/state in which the offense occurred and requesting the infomration. Some precincts charge copy fees, so be prepared for that.

If you don't want to have to search all over for yours or you'd like to see something more like what your potential employer will see, then you are most likely going to have to pay for a service. I have listed a few to chose from in resources.
no idea.
personally I always feel better to leave people with no surprises --but that's just me.
I wouldn't bring it up on my own. But if they ask, be truthful about it
Be honest with them because hey could have already done a background check and want to see are you prepared to lie to them.
be straight and honest because it could come up latter then you would lose the job anyway
if you answered "no" then i would not say anything ever. if your misdemeanors have or had nothing to do with the kind of job you will be doing, and it your recuiter has not asked you anything, and if you learned your lesson regarding the issue, then i would not add "fire to the kettle". if you know what i mean.
if in the furture the subject would come up, then addressed it then,. if if not, its your past, it taught you a lesson,. end of story
NO! Don't get into the habit throughout your life of supplying people what they need to judge you or use against you (or opening cans of worms that others can open if they feel compelleed). Why? That's not even what they were asking for.
The question revolves around FELONIES.

You've plead guilty to MISDEMEANORS.

No issue from where I am. I think that no one will ask. and no reason to tell.
BE HONEST, but don't offer the information on your own volition. Have them ask you the nature of the misdemeanor, but leave it up to them to touch the topic. Never lie about things because even misdemeanors can be traced.
If the question was about felonies only, and you pleaded guilty to misdemeanors, I really wouldn't worry about it. You already answered no, and if the subject comes up, just be honest about it.reiterate that you pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, not a felony.good luck!
first off, they can not ask if arrested. they can only ask about convictions. They asked for felony, therefore, you are not required to give out any info regarding misdemeanors. there are state and federal laws regarding what an employer can ask.
I would not bring it up unless your prospective employer brings it up. If they do mention it, I would be completely honest, telling them that these were small misdemeanors and were a long time ago. You do not need to give them any further details, and I would advise you not to.
I work in Human Resources and if you were convicted on a crime including a misdemeanor if will show in your criminal background. If it's been for than 10 years it probably won't show but it really depends I work for a hospital and we go back as far as 20 years and people indicate no on their employment application and we are unable to hire them for lying.
