Do you think it is rude/unprofessional to curse in front of children WHILE YOU ARE WORKING?
When we returned, a young girl was sitting on the counter (where things are MADE), and asked (from that spot) if she could help us. She didn't even get up and come to the counter where we were standing.
While ringing up our order, she made a mistake and commented "oh **!" In front of my 12 year old sister and other kids nearby. She didn't think anything of this.
When did service get so crappy, and where are these kids getting this language from?! I am only 22, and yes, I do swear, but NOT at work and NOT in front of kids!
I'm sure that my sister hears worse at school, but C'mon, what kind of example is that setting? Am I stupid to be offended?

I think it is rude in general to curse no matter where you are or who is around.
thats just down right unproffesional and soo rude. hope you complained. I think its disgracefull. i work in childcare as a manager and sadly we have 5 yr olds using such language. the parents just laugh some in shock but others because they genuinly think its funny and we can do nothing but you can i would have gave that girl a mouthfull.
No, you're not stupid to be offended. Cursing is unprofessional. I curse a lot in my non-work life but I know when I am "on the clock," I am being paid to do my job. And a part of every job is putting forth a proper image of the company. No matter if your job is an entry-level position at Ben and Jerrys or a senior executive at a Fortune-500 company, cussing in the workplace is unprofessional and does not project a positive image of the company. If I were you, I would call the Ben and Jerry's store manager and complain about the employee because the manager is not paying them to annoy the customers!

I have found this to be true in most places that hire teenagers. Bad service, rudeness, bad language and poor "people skills". Personally, I think it must stem from lack of physical punishment when growing up. I don't think that "time-outs" or withholding privileges works any more for disciplining children. I don't think these kids are "pure evil" as others do; I just think that their parents were afraid to administer proper discipline.
That was uncalled for. Nowadays, it is hard to live on the
minimum wage that these people are getting, so they don't
want to work. (Did you ever hear, I pretend to work and
they pretend to pay me.)
Using purple words is ALWAYS crass, boorish, tacky, trashy behavior, regardless of the time or place or who may be present.
You should report her unsanitary, lazy, and rude behavior to her supervisor, and I hope you do.
Her behavior is inexcusable.
I do feel you should be offend because it's not right!! I feel that people who curse have very small vocabularies and low self esteems.Besides what's the point of it, to make you feel big or important!! If you don't do it in front of her that shows you know it's not right and that is not a good image to display in front of her!! So don't do it at all! Personally i do not do it anymore because i have a baby and do not want him to cues!
