Is it too late for me to start working on a career for myself?

I'm 37, and currently unemployed. I can't really go into detail as to why I don't have a career, but I can tell you that I have had a few part-time jobs, and they all pretty much sucked.
Right now, I'm looking at starting college courses online, and working towards a career; something that I would really enjoy doing. One possibility is to work in the field of Travel & Tourism, or Hospitality. Some examples are: Travel Agent, Hotel Manager, etc.
The problem that I'm having is this: being 37, I feel that it's too late to begin an education for a career. I don't know why I feel this way, I just do. I would appreciate any advice, comments, or insights concerning this issue. Thank you.

Good Advise from Will. Its never too late, or you are never too old to try to improve your position in life. Do not allow past failures or disappointment cloud your future. Do some research first and be sure to find a career that is suitable and that will provide a good, secure future. You are not too old, but you do not have the luxury of a younger person; to enter a career discover you don't like it and go into another. You need to settle on one now. GOOD LUCK
Its never to late. But get an entry level job in the area while you go to school.
still have a good 30-40 years of working to go..do whatever you feel like doing.
I'm 42 and will graduate college next year to start on my fourth career. My mom got a history degree and became a history teacher when she was 45. You're never too old to learn something new or start something new. You want to change your life around and try something else? Go for it!
My dad is 55 and is a hotel manager, he loves it still, so I say no, its not too late to go into that sort of industry. Last week, I was reading the news, and a 99 year old lady, don't know the exact age, but it was old, just got her college degree. I don't know for what reason, but it is still a good idea. The sooner the better, I guess. Goodluck!
not at all. as long as you feel you can do it, i think just do it. i think there is never be too late for education. if you shy to do education for career, you can do seminars, for example : trading seminars , motivation seminars, etc. i think, it's important to do it because it can open your mind.
You could have a good 30 years of work ahead in the career of your dreams, and you think it may be too late to start? No way, man. Now you have more of the experience to know those things that you don't want to do. You've got a leg up on those 20-somethings. Many folks don't realize until the 40's what they really want to do. So, they spend a lot of time learning what makes them miserable. See how far ahead of the curve you are? Go for it!
HOLY CRAP, you're me but 10 years older.

I'm currently unemployed, no career, looking to go back to college and want to be a Travel Agent, Hotel Mgr, etc... but I'm constantly told you need to be very good and need lots of experience and there is no room for growth (which I disagree).

I would say do what you love. Have a specialty job in mind like an auto mechanic or C++ programmer or something you can take a class in and specialize in, you know what I mean? I'm better at giving advice than listening to my own and helping myself. I'm told I should be a counselor but I don't know how to start a career in that field.

Try careerbuilder, monster, etc... any and all job sites. The best way to get a job is connections. Its not what you know its WHO you know and thats a FACT!

Anyway, GOOD LUCK! Feel free to send me an email message.

Just to add on to the others' advices: - you have to first rationalise internally that you want to do something in your life and that you have the will to make it happen. Without that, whatever you set out to do may not materialize in the end. Good luck.

It is never too late to get an education and start a new career. My mother in law was in her 50's when she graduated nursing school and started her career.
I know of an excellent opportunity to own your own work from home business until you get things going with your new career. There are no start up costs and no scams. If you would like more information feel free to contact me.
