The very fact that you are asking that question unquestionably marks you out as not having even the slightest chance of becoming one. If you're so clueless about it try something a little less taxing - i hear McDonalds are hiring at the moment.
I would say so yeh. First you need qualifications to go to University (a - levels or equilavent). then 3 years of a law degree (which I am currently doing :p). then you need to do a 1 year LPC course which costs a lot. then you need to do a BVC (which is also very expensive!) for a few more years. During all of this studying, you need to be making contacts, networking and gaining loadsa work experience. Then, and only then will you (maybe) be considered to become a barrister, but if you are not fully committed to be a barrister, I wouldn't recommend choosing this career path. It is a hard job and you are always learning new things with the changing laws and society!
I hope this sort of answers your question, but I would recommend looking at websites like www.prospects.ac.uk which will give you more insight into careers.
Not if you're part of the "ol'boys club".
Failing that, you have to be willing to suck knob
