Something troubling at work?

One of the men I work for has his office right across from where I sit. Ever since the first week I started working for him, he drives me crazy singing a verse from an old song "Why do birds suddenly appear, everytime you are near. Just like me they long to be close to you". You know that old Carpenter's song. I don't mind his singing but it is constant which is bothersom and I do mind if he is trying to relay a message to me. What do you think it is?

Answers:
If he's been singing this since before you worked there, I would just let him know that the singing is a bit distracting. If he's mindful of his employees, he will stop. He also probably does not like you if he started this before you were there.

Now if he only started when you specifically started working there, I would just ask him what inspires his songs. If he answers it's you, politely let him know that it makes you uncomfortable. If he's smart, he will stop - his behavior could be considered a form of harrassment - "unwanted advances."

If it bothers you to the point that you want to tear your hair out, and efforts to get him to stop are futile, I'd suggest working somewhere else.

*disclaimer - this is just what i would do. what you do is of course up to you, and i hope it works out for the best.
I would either ignore it or politely ask him one day if that is his favorite song. You can subtly tell him that you noticed he sings it all the time. If he has a motive for this, it will likely come out. If not, he might take the hint that it's irritating.
One of the men I used to work with would sing "I'm Henry the Eighth I am," over and over. I hated it. So did my co-workers. We complained to our boss and she talked to him. He stopped singing this stupid song. I suggest you speak with somebody about this guy. He may be one of your bosses so speak with the other boss(es). You may want to discuss this with another female employee first to get her take on it, but just discuss the facts and that his singing this song over and over is driving you nuts. Don't add anything, just state the facts. You never know who is friends with whom. It sounds like a message to you. You shouldn't have to put up with this. I hope you find a way to resove this matter so you can enjoy just doing your job.
I would say it is his way of giving a hint. You could do a couple of things: (1) Go to your personnel office and mention it. But this would cause a few future challenges which could be harmful to you later. (2) Get a photograph of a football player in uniform. Get it signed. Put it in a frame and display it on your desk. Have a friend call you every once in awhile and mention his name as if it was him calling. Need I say more.
I would walk up to him and say"Gee,thats a lovely verse, you must be very lonely."
Well, you can either ask him to be quiet or find your own verse to sing back...
I have some questions for you as well:

-does he direct his singing to you?
-does he ONLY sing when you are around, or are other people in the office subjected to this when you're not there?
-does he do anything else that might demonstrate an undue interest in you - ask you personal questions, stare at your cleavage, make comments about your appearance, etc.?

If he seems to be directing the singing and/or other attention to you, first ask him to stop (politely.) If he doesn't do so, you need to file a harassment complaint with HR. If he is your direct supervisor, filing a complaint is obviously going to affect your working relationship with him, so think through the repurcussions and have another job lined up if you need to.

If he annoys everyone with his singing, and there doesn't seem to be any ulterior motive, make a joke about needing to change the oldies radio station in the office or something. He may not even realize he's doing it.

Good luck.
