How do you succeed in a job you do not like?

I do not like my job. However, I want to be a sucess. I just can't suceed in my current job. Any advice? Finding a job these days is near impossible. I could flip burgers but that would be much worse than my current job. Is it more difficult to obtain a good job in your 40s?

Answer:
that is really going to be hard, due the fact you don't like the job, so being a success at something you dislike your chances are pretty slim. try finding things you like about the job, for whatever reason you applied to get the job there had to be some interest. you may need to speak with your sup and organize some type of function that all staff employees will njoy, atleast that will show some creativity. not to mention the morale boost for you. try that and see if that will spark a new found likeness for your job.
by having good job performance good people and communication skills
Do what everone else does. FAKE IT !
Well, if you're telling yourself you can't succeed in your current job, you won't. The best way to get a better job is to excel in the one you've got, whether you like it or not . give yourself a chance to be promoted or get management to notice you're being underutilized. If you are over-achieving and not getting recognized, make sure you're documenting your achievements in whatever way your company provides -- whether it's self-assessments that help your boss do you review -- or if there's no formal way for you to do it yourself, make sure your manager is doing it for you.
Your current job is most likely harder than just "flipping burgers". Just keep trying harder, don't get anything easier (unless of course it pays more!) then everything will pay off when you can retire.

And yeah, it is harder to get a job in the 40's and 50's because many of those who are in their 20's and 30's had more updated education, so people would be looking for those younger age groups to work for them.
I am currently in the same situation. What I've decided to do is to post for jobs in different areas of my company. That way I can keep my pay. I have also decided to go back to school to get my skills up to par, with the chance of changing careers in the future.
Unless you have skills that are in demand or experience that is in dmand gettin a job in your 40's is difficult. You do not say what your current job is so can't determine if there is room to grow.If you are good at fixing things consider going to to a trade school.weekends, evenings(many have very convenient class hours)for even Plumbers Helpers make a v.good salary as do Air/Heat Techs, Techs for Plasma or HDTV Repairs, Computer Repair(not same as programmer)You need to take inventory of your skills and what you can do then check the classifieds local paper(all also now have jobs listed on tjhe web)also check with Temp and Full-time Employmnt Agencies(where the employer pays the fee-not you)and see whats out there that you qualify for. You can go job hunting and till remain with your present job for I'm sure you have bills. If you find that its very bleak then even though you don't like your job ask if it pays the bills sufficiently and can you also save some-does it have a 401 and Health Benefits, Insurance if you pay yourself is very expensive compared to Group through employer. And Unemployment is HARD for if no job found then ,,,?that's how people end up homeless. You may want to think on that or your present job. If you are confident you can find a better job then look for companies that have 401-most match what you put in and if you do until you retire adds up to a very nice nest egg for when you are old. Also important they have Health Benefits since a person your age can be approx $500.per month for Health InsuranceGood Luck and wish you a happy, successful life.
Get out of the box! Figure out what you would be really happy doing. Don't be totally unrealistic though. If you have a high school diploma, you can't become a physicist without a lot more education.

But once you know of a field you'd love into which there are possibly entry levels, start researching. Your computer offers more information than the greatest libraries that have ever been.

Search everything you can find or think of in the field. This could lead you to a fulfilling career.
try to excel in whatever you do or at least be useful to everyone around you. remember "the grass is always greener elsewhere over the fence" but in fact it is amost 99% not!
You are in your 40s, so I assume you have a good, solid 20 years of experience. There is no reason for you not to be happy!

Find a job that suits you (I can't tell you what that is, only you know), and the success will follow.
if you do not like your job, better search for a new one that you like. there is no possibility of being successful while you do not like the job you are doing. the bottomline is 'To be successful professionally, you need to be in love with your job'
