What should you say in the e-mail if you can't attend an invited career night but interview the following day?

Answer:
Apologize that you have a previous engagement that conflicts but that you're very interested in the firm and looking forward to the interview.
Direct approach is always best.just say you have a conflict and try to schedule something else.

That being said, I will say that as a person who does a lot of hiring, e-mail is the WORST way to communicate. If you must communicate in writing, send a fax. No one gets faxes anymore, so yours is likely to really stand out. Sending an e-mail is just an invitiation to get lost in the inbox.

Better still is to just show up. There is nothing like a little in-person presence, persistance and professionalism.
