Was phone interviewed for job but they need people with knees and have to deal with homeless and others?

The lady seemed very nice. and i'm sure she liked me.but i guess she doesn't understand my problem. I have knee problems she wants someone who can lift sometimes for filing boxes of files, apprently there is alooot of filing to do..and have to bend down and do alot of things that normal people can do. Then it's Social SErvices office, and she said "you have to deal with homeless people and people that sometimes have bad attitude" and i'm a shy kind of guy with not much experience in dealing with people face to face. I did'nt say "NO thanks i can't take the job" because i'm in need of a job.and i need money. But homeless people are sometimes crazy and they start fighting, then that place is near the jail.. what if they come and stab me..Should i go head and accept if they offeer me the job? Besides the fact that i kind of dont like the environment, they pay good and she said "All we need is someone who can be courteous and nice" So what do you say?

Answer:
If I were offered the job I would accept it. I'm sure there a safety procedures in place so you won't have to worry about being stabbed. Even though you say you are shy, do you think you can be courteous and nice to others? Even if they are homeless? If the lifting is a continuous thing, for hours on end, then it will be up to you to decide if you can do the job fully. Also if you do accept the position, once your probationary period is over, you can always apply for another open position within the organization. Besides, most of the customers who have to deal with Social Services don't feel good about themselves because they are asking for help, which to them could be like asking for a handout. Personally, I would accept the job and give 110% just to see if I could do it. If you find out you can't, let the bosses know and that you would like to placed somewhere else in the organization where you could do the job. Besides, it is so much easier to get another job when you already have one. Good luck and think POSITIVE!
No Offense but be happy you were offered the job-
accept it for the time until you can find something else- This position will give you other experience. If you don't like it you can always find other employment. If its too much be honest with yourself.. you & only you know your limitations
