What are backlinks in a website?
Answers:
Backlinks are links from other websites to yours, most often called 'inbound links'.
Inbound links and their anchor text are the second most important factor in your sites ranking (after the title element).

**Webmasterguy** Top professional SEOs or anyone who has optimized more than a couple of dozen sites knows that the top three factors in order of importance are:
1. Keyword use in the title element
2. Anchor text in inbound links
3. Global link popularity of site
just a note on another answer which suggested the title element was more important then back links,
I don't think this is the case, of more importance is your keyword distribution across your whole website, homepage etc, web pages inside your own website are also counted as link backs to your home page, their content adds to the relevance of your home page content, therefore their content must be good also
When I say keyword distribution I dont mean spamming your keywords everywhere on your website, I mean quality relevant text with keywords in it.
kind of automatic link exchange.
if you put my link to your site, you can see your link at my site. before that we must have to on the facility.
