What does a media or press kit have in it?

Answer:
Media kits are packets of information that companies send to news outlets to inform them about the company and any news they're promoting. They can be part of a targeted campaign where the kits contain information specific to that campaign, or it can hold general information. Kits can vary on content, but usually they include the basics:

- Fact sheet about the company (stats, brief history, overview of products/services)
- Executive bios (along with their photo, sometimes)
- Relevant news releases
- Business card of key PR contact

If it's about a particular promotion, in addition to the above items kits can also include fact sheets specific to that promotion (general info and fun facts), advertising samples (slicks, CDs), etc.

Sometimes media kits aren't just folders filled with paper. In my experience, I've put together some creative "kits" that get a reporter's attention. When I was at a PR agency that represented the Texas tourism division, they were launching a new advertising campaign. So I went to the local Western Warehouse and bought 100 colorful single cowboy boots (loners from old store displays that they had stowed away in the back).

I stuffed each boot with red, white and blue tissue paper (colors of the Texas flag) and then printed out a news release on old-time paper so it had the Old West look to it. The releases were then rolled up, tied with a thin rope (ala lasso) and then placed inside the boot. The boot was placed in a box, surrounded by straw-like stuffing. It was a hit with the media, as it really got their attention.

You have to be careful, though, and not overwhelm the media with kits all of the time. They get hundreds each week from PR pros, and unless yours stands out, the chances are fairly good that they might just toss it without looking at it.

A newspaper or an iron.
you can get a general idea/template at microsoft.com go to the office section and search media kits

but basicly it includes all the information about your project including photos, contact information details, etc.
A media kit, also called a press packet, is simply a collection of information that typically includes a letter to the recipient, brochures, testimonials, reviews and a business card. A media kit is a sampling of key information about you and your company, what you do and why they should care.
