Why do companies occasionally mispell packaging?

It never ceases to amaze me why companies insert the words "Lite", "Xtra" and (Bonus) "Pak" into their packaging labels.

If anyone in the advertising world can giving me an answer as to why...Well 10 PointZ for you!

Answers:
I think a number of reasons

1. We live in a world of shortcuts..therefore the word 'lite' is probably more relevant to a consumer than 'light' which might be read as 'stuffy' or 'conservative'

2. Secondly it has something to do with attracting consumer attention. A short cut (misspelled word) probably grabs more attention.

3. Related to points 1 and 2 above, intentionally misspelled words probably read as more 'chic-cool '
Many that you mentioned are trademarks and brand names.
why did you misspell the word misspell?

But advertisers reflect the general population that luvs 2 b different. Lite is now in the dictionary, along with "google" meaning to search for.
