Do you think E-BAY is over rated?

by the time you pay shipping and handling and take a chance on even getting your item would'nt it be cheaper to go down to the store?

Answer:
NOT OVER RATED: It is worth it- I just bought a BRAND NEW surround sound system that normally retails for $250 for less than $90 with shipping. Here is the trick:

Do your homework! Check out ALL of the auctions before you bid, and research the product and the in-store value of it before you bid. Alot of people want to rip you off- but it you watch closely you will find the one that just wants to get rid of the item and will sell it for less than 1/2 the retail price.

As for the chances of getting your item: If you are smart you will buy from a seller with a rating of 98% or higher, have at least 50 transactions, and will read their feedback BEFORE bidding.

You have to be smarter than E-BAY, and if you are, it will reward you immensely.
IF you can get the item
You do get some good deals tough
i dont think so, i bought about 6 bellyrings for like $60 if i would have gotten them anywhere else.good kinds.they would have been about $20 each and that would amount to $120 so i got a good deal.
Some things you can't find at the store. I go on Ebay to buy Russian Dolls and it is very rare to find them at a store. Then when you do, like there are a few at the Mall, you don't get as big of a selection.

You can also get a better deal on Ebay. You can find some children's books that are a lot cheaper than somewhere like Barnes and Nobles. Ebay isn't just junk either, you can find new items!
You have to be real selective. I've gotten some off the wall stuff I wanted. The shipping can kill you so you really have to watch what you are doing. I have gotten a couple of good buys even with the shipping.
Not as over rated has you think. I collect Cincinnati Reds memorabilia. Some of that stuff is very hard to get. I can get good deals on some it. It is not everyday I see old seats from Crosley Field or The Palace of the Fans. I can't afford them right now, but at least I can get idea what they go for. I even saw once an old usher's hat from Crosley Field. That thing went for about $500. So, eBay is good for things like that.
ok heres something to think on
what in this day and age
WHAT ISENT OVER RATED
wen u find something I bet it aint worth the points of this answer
Yes I do.
Only the buyer can regulate what he or she is willing to pay for an item and what value it has to them. Don't worry so much about the seperation in an ad of merchandise cost and shipping cost. In most cases the shipping rates are higher to pay for the listing fees, time, packaging, and other expenses. Sellers pay the listing fees on the merchandise costs which is why it's cheaper to start an item for a penny and put your break even point in the shipping charges. The buyer needs to add that penny (or dime or dollar) to the shipping costs to determine if the pricing is realistic. If the ads were reversed with a higher start price and free shipping for example the listing fees would be based on the starting price plus the final value fee. All in all, Ebay has a great business going. When you consider the cost of a newspaper ad to sell one item to your local area against the cost of an auction (or store format) ad to reach millions, Ebay isn't over rated at all. The expression that comes to mind is "let the buyer beware." I have never had a bad experience from buying or selling on Ebay which isn't to say there are none. I've made money and saved money which is the point of using the service in the first place. In short, don't bid more than you want to pay.
If you're asking if its overrated in terms of making money.
I am making thousands per month of ebay.

I use products provided from rich-jerks.com and sell digital products on ebay.

It's flawless.
depends.eBay is a risk, but sometimes the store doesn't have what you need (discountinued mdse, antiques, etc)
