Why is there a craze over that pixel advertising when your paying for such a little space?
Answer:
Alex Tew's MillionDollarHomepage.com which pioneered the whole pixel advertising craze was an example of a well-executed business idea.
It does not make any business sense -- as you said, why pay for such a little space -- but Tew's approach in launching it was as an appeal to support his college education. He was a poor student who needed funds for his college education. It was a crazy idea and people responded to it first to support him. Tew did a great job in harnessing press releases to drum up interest in the site and create word of mouth.
But copycats are not thriving as well as him because the idea is plain crazy. It really makes no business sense. Hence, others cannot replicate Tew's success because there's no novelty anymore.
i think the use of CRAZE to describe pixel ads is WAYYYYYYYYY strong. it's affordable but not very effective and as we all know you get what you pay for.
the end.
