We know the client’s product line, historical market, potential market, media costs, media response, and budgeting issues. We often have to be intimate with a number of advertising media, such as radio, television, phone solicitation, mail campaigns, and promotional events. Ourr most difficult task is determining how best to take advantage of any or all of them to promote their product.
In addition, We have to know when to sell client's product, and when to mow down the other guy’s product
Marketing takes three basic forms:
Positive marketing (the benefits of your product or service), educational marketing (developing a demand for your product by educating people about their needs, such as mouthwash marketers talking about gingivitis), and
negative marketing (revealing the flaws in a competitor’s product).
We need to be ready for all.

Working in an advertising agency can be both good and bad. The creativity is amazing and so is digging into the mind of consumers to find out what really makes them purchase items. It's not all pretty pictures though. There is a lot of research to be done, you are constantly limited by budgets and layoffs and turnover are very common, as are very late nights and even weekends. Not all business is consumer driven; there is a lot of B-to-B, which can be boring. You really have to be committed to stick to this environment. But the instant you see your work in the marketplace, it is awesome.
