What advertising and marketing like, is it a possitive career choice?

Answer:
Like, if you want any like career in like advertising and marketing, you should really like eliminate "like" from questions like this.
You have to be a quick, out of the box thinker with the ability to work very tight deadlines, deal with customers and translate their ideas into what your team produces. Stress level can be very high, you can end up pulling a lot of overtime, competition to get into the business is really fierce.

If you're not in a large city pay can be pretty crappy, depending on what you're doing. But with experience and proving yourself with great ideas you can move up the ladder and earn a good salary eventually. Your first couple of years it takes a lot of hard work if you want to climb the ranks.

I don't want to dissuade you, but I want to be honest with you. I when I studied advo/marketing in college I never expected it to be this tough. My first job out of college I was working 60+ hour weeks. But its a great feeling to see your work out there and you can get some pretty cool perks from clients, depending on who your clients are. Also, people tend to be pretty fun and the atmosphere at most place is comfortable to induce good creative processes.

If you want to go in to advo/marketing, I recommend shadowing a company or doing internships to see what the atmosphere and work is like. Good luck!!
Keep in mind that "advertising" and "marketing" are potentially very different career paths AND that there are also a million ways to go within "advertising" and "marketing."

Working in advertising can mean selling ad space at a radio station or the Yelllow Pages. However it can also mean working at a major ad agency- where there are a whole range of great jobs, too. Try to shoot for working for a major agency so that you can see the complete picture of what an agency can be like- you can always go smaller later. But working for someone like Honda is very different than having clients like Bob's Wash and Go in downtown nowhereville.

Marketing can mean sales, it can mean brand management (at a company like General Mills), it can mean being a marketing manager- which equates to promoting the business at a small firm.

All are positive career choices- for the right person. The key is getting some exposure to different companies so you can figure out what that means to you. Most companies are very open to talking to people about what jobs are like in their organizations (informational interviews).

Consider also contacting the local American Marketing Association for information on companies that have marketing jobs in your area. They also tend to have relationships with ad agencies.
