Who benefits from this "scalping," the ticket buyers, the ticket sellers, both or neither?

many-superbowl ticketholders end up reselling their tickets, sold at game times for over $1000 each.

Answer:
People find many ways to profit from something. They win some, the lose some.

Buy low, sell high.
Huh? You just said they get sold for over $1000..so why do you ask?
Both. I pay "too much" for tickets all of the time. But I don't have to sit for hours on the net trying to be first on Ticketmaster or wait in line somewhere. Ebay is great, I'm always in the first couple of rows.
The definition of a transaction is a willing buyer and a willing seller. So, of course, both parties get what they want.
both the buyer and seller win b/c they are trading in the open market. The real loser is the venue who issued the tickets. If they sold them at auction (which is basically how scalper sells them) they'd make much more money.
The seller, or in this case the scalper. they buy tickets at ticket window prices, then sell them at a huge profit. If you buy a ticket from a scalper your are going to pay 10 to 20 times what he or she paid for it at least if not more.

There have been College students who have paid their way through college buying tickets at student discount then reselling them, i.e scalping them for huge profits.
