Consider public policy aimed at smoking.?

Studies indicate that the price elasticity of demand for cigarettes is 0.4. If a packet of cigarettes currently cost $8 and the goverment wants to reduce smoking by 20%, by how much should it increase the price? when answering this question, plz think about econmic in Australia. thx

Answer:
I would suggest it's not the business of governments to meddle in personal choices (if the citizenry is crying about the costs of smoking related diseases to taxpayers, the citizenry has already made the mistake of socializing medicine and interfering with natural selection).

One aspect of socialism doesn't become the justification for other aspects of socialism, that's a dubious circular argument.

Edit - Gabrio: what's something you like to do that I don't approve of that I can ban everywhere as well?
Are you suggesting raising the cost of something reduces it's use?

No matter what the cost, this will not stop people from buying it as long as they want it.
It should be forbidden everywhere, smoking.
